Now he's unstoppable By Stephen Messenger Published on Dec 11, 2024 at 1:28 PM A few weeks ago, while walking near her home in Peru, Vanessa Grandez spotted a small, furry figure collapsed on the roadside. Arriving closer, she learned the heartbreaking truth. It was an abandoned dog who’d been hit by a car. Though seemingly lifeless at first, the pup was in fact still alive. “When he was run over, nobody helped him,” Grandez told The Dodo. But now help had arrived. Vanessa Grandez Grandez immediately swept the dog into her arms and rushed him to a veterinarian. There, it was discovered that he’d suffered a broken spine in the accident and would require emergency surgery. When she went to investigate its contents, she was heartbroken to realize that inside the basket, there were seven tiny puppies. The previous night’s heavy rain had filled the crate with dirty water, turning the puppies’ white fur filthy. It was freezing outside, so the puppies had been huddling together, desperately trying to keep each other warm. Well, great eared nightjars look like they’re straight out of a fantasy movie, and lucky for us, they’re very real. G reat eared nightjars are found  in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, and they’re nocturnal, so they roam the forests under the cover of darkness.
