Family Accidentally Creeps Out Squirrel Neighbor With Their Halloween Decor

"They weren't expecting that reaction.

With Halloween just around the corner, Mal Kennedy and her family thought it would be fun to hang up a few “spooky” decorations on their porch — a couple of ghostly skeletons and a cat-faced bat wearing a bowtie.

Those figurines are hardly the scariest decor imaginable. But still, their sudden presence on Kennedy’s porch came as quite the shock to someone in particular.

Over the past few years, the family has come to befriend a local squirrel who lives in a tree near their place.

“[He’s] our little buddy. We’ve named him Tim,” Kennedy told The Dodo. “He has a girlfriend who just had babies in the same tree.”

Tim occasionally drops by Kennedy’s porch to enjoy water and snacks she leaves out for him. But on this day, he got more than he'd bargained for.

“I hung up the Halloween decorations at night, and the next morning Tim saw them,” Kennedy said.

The friendly squirrel wasn’t so thrilled by the sight of them.

Kennedy and her family had accidentally creeped Tim out — and they caught his response on video:

Tim reacted as though he’d seen a ghost — and in a way, he really had.

Sounding out a warning call to anyone with in earshot, Tim let it be known that something eerie was afoot.

Kennedy did her best to reassure him: “It’s OK, bud,” she told Tim.

Fortunately, Tim eventually regained his composure, apparently having figured out that the decorations weren’t nearly as threatening as they may have seemed at first.

“I almost took [the decorations] down because he seemed afraid to come back onto our deck,” Kennedy said. “But he started coming around again, so I know that he’s OK with them.”
